NUMERICAL METHODS FOR MATHEMATICS, SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING

This text provides an introduction to numerical analysis for undergraduate students in mathematics, engineering and science. The material is presented in such a way that instructors/readers will be able to select topics appropriate to their needs. Only a familiarity with calculus and a structured programming language (e.g. BASIC, FORTRAN, C or Pascal) is assumed of the reader. While emphasis is placed on understanding why numerical methods work and what their limitations are, a balance between theory, data analysis and readability by students is maintained. Computer assignments implementing the algorithms give students an opportunity to practice their skills at scientific programming.
